Coupled Drive Units

Coupled drives belong to a device which represents the drive within the fieldbus topology. The symbols of these drives have a small mark indicating the corresponding fieldbus type. For example, every standard servo drive is connected to the controller by a fieldbus.

When using drives, CODESYS SoftMotion provides specific device descriptions for the fieldbus master ("_SoftMotion" suffix). These have optimized basic parameters for the drive.

Important

For drives which are used with CODESYS SoftMotion, modulo handling must be deactivated in the drive. Modulo handling is performed by CODESYS SoftMotion in the controller. If applicable, the maximum travel range should be set to the full 32 bits.

Adding a coupled drive device (EtherCAT)

Requirement: A SoftMotion-compatible controller is inserted into the project.

  1. In the device tree, select the SoftMotion controller.

  2. In the context menu, click Add Device.

  3. In the Add Device dialog, select the Fieldbuses → EtherCAT → Master → EtherCAT Master SoftMotion device.

  4. Click the Add Device button.

The device is added to the device tree. The Add Device dialog remains open.

  5. Select the device which you just added to the device tree.

  6. In the Add Device dialog, select a SoftMotion slave (Fieldbuses → EtherCAT → Slave → <SoftMotion drive>).

  7. Click the Add Device button.

The device is added to the device tree.
