Device Management

Tip

If device descriptions were installed with standard CODESYS without a safety extension, then they cannot be used in CODESYS Safety Extension. The respective device descriptions have to be reinstalled after the installation of CODESYS Safety Extension in order for them to be used in CODESYS Safety Extension.

Safe devices are managed, installed, and uninstalled in a similar way to standard devices in the Device Repository (Tools menu).

For more information: see: Device Repository

The relevant devices can be found here in the Device Repository.

  • Safety PLCs: In the category PLCs, subcategory Safety PLCs (sil3_img_device_safety_plc.png)

  • Logical devices of the safe field devices: Depending on the respective fieldbus in a subcategory (for example, Safe modules (sil3_img_device_safe_modules.png) of the Fieldbuses category or in the physical devices.

  • Physical devices for safe field devices are only explicitly listed if they are not installed as modules or submodules as part of the field device. They are not listed in their own subcategories.

  • Logical devices of the standard field devices: In the category Logical devices, subcategory Generated logical devices

  • Logical devices for data exchange with the standard controller: In the category Logical devices, subcategory Logical exchange devices

The relevant logical devices can be found here in the Add Logical Device dialog:

  • Logical devices of the safe field devices: Depending on the respective fieldbus in a subcategory (for example, Safe modules (sil3_img_device_safe_modules.png) of the Fieldbuses category or in the physical devices.

  • Logical devices of the standard field devices: In the category Logical devices, subcategory Generated logical devices

  • Logical devices for data exchange with the standard controller: In the category Logical devices, subcategory Logical exchange devices

For detailed information about the logical I/Os, see: Logical I/Os

Safe field devices that have been installed in the device repository can be inserted into the project tree on a standard page like any installed device.

The safety-oriented parameters of the safety-oriented field devices are edited in the respective logical I/Os. For more information, see: Device Editor of Logical I/Os

The standard field devices and standard parameters of the safety-oriented devices are parameterized as in standard CODESYS.
