Tab: Redundancy State

The topology of the redundant system is displayed as a graphic on the Redundancy Configuration tab of the editor. The current settings of the PLCs, such as the gateway and communication settings (name, type, version, address, and manufacturer), are also displayed. You can define the network path between the PLC and redundant PLC, and assign the roles to the PLCs. Moreover, you can modify the device settings and synchronize the devices.

The following buttons and settings are available at runtime depending on the specific situation.

For more information, see: Using a Redundant Control System

Set Path PLC 1 button

Opens the device editor and switches to the Communication tab

There you can apply the communication settings for PLC 1.

Tip

When your device is active, you can apply the settings by means of the Scan Network command.

Set Path PLC 2 button

Opens the Select Device dialog

There you can scan the network and define the redundant device. The device has to be in operation for this.

Swap PLC Paths button

Requirement: The devices are in operation, connected to the development system, and the application is downloaded.

Exchanges the communication settings of both PLCs and switches the active communication to the other PLC

Note

This command changes only the communication settings in the device and in the redundancy configuration. It does not change any settings on the Redundancy Settings tab.

Table 1. PLC 1 / PLC 2

Redundancy State

Output (textual) of the operating state of both PLC 1 and PLC 2

Example: Active

Gateway

Communication settings of the gateway

Device

Communication settings of the device

Activate

Requirement: Simulation mode

Switches the PLC to Active state

The other PLC will synchronize after about 10 s.

Note

The variable values are not synchronized.

Switch over

Switches the PLC from Active state to Standby state

Synchronize

Requirement: Simulation mode or error status

Synchronizes the standby PLC with the currently active PLC

The data and addresses are synchronized in the areas registered for redundancy.

The PLC in simulation mode or in error state synchronizes with the other PLC, applies its data, and switches to standby mode.
