Encrypting a Project with Dongle (no longer recommended)

Encryption with a dongle is no longer recommended. Use certificate-based encryption instead.

If the CODESYS Key registered for the project is lost, you can no longer open the project or restore it.

The "dongle" required in this case is CODESYS Key, which you can get from the CODESYS Store.

Requirement: The project is opened and you have connected the CODESYS Key to your computer.

Click Project → Project Settings and then the Security category.
The Project Settings: Security dialog opens.
Select the Encryption and Dongle options.
The dialog opens with the Registered dongles list box and the Add, Remove, Comment, and Flash buttons. The Password, Dongle, and Certificates option fields are selectable.
Click the Add button.
The Add Registered Dongle dialog opens.
In the Dongle list box, select the CODESYS Key and enter a comment (optional). Click OK.
The added dongle is listed under Registered dongles.
Click OK.
The dongle is registered for the project. You need to connect the dongle to your computer in order to open the project again, even if it is to be loaded as a library reference.
