Tab: Sercos Master – General

Object: Sercos Master

The tab in the configurator of the Sercos Master contains the basic settings for network communication.

Table 1. Settings

Sercos cycle time

Time interval for the data exchange between the master and slave. This period is independent of the cycle time of the controller itself. Unit: nanoseconds; default: 1,000,000ns = 1ms; minimum value: 10,000ns; minimum value: 4,000,000,000ns.

NRT channel time width

(The NRT feature is currently not supported).

The non-real time channel (NRT) is used for transferring standardized or proprietary IP protocols. The time width defines how long the bus is reserved for real-time data. Default: 10,000ns; minimum value: 1,000ns; maximum value: 4,000,000,000ns.

IP max transmission

Maximum number of bytes that can be transferred in a package in the IP channel. Default: 100; maximum: 1500.

Timing method

  • NRT after last AT telegram: First, the master data telegrams (MDT) are transferred, then the answer telegrams (AT), and then the non-real-time telegrams (NRT).

  • NRT after last MDT telegram: NRTs are transferred between MDTs and ATs and then directly to the MDTs.

  • NRT between MDT and AT at end: The NRTs are transferred then to the MDTs as in the second option. However, the ATs are transferred at the end of the Sercos cycle, not directly to the MDTs as in the second option.

Hotplugging

standard icon: Slave devices can be added during operation (currently not supported).

Automatic restart by master

If there is an interruption in communication between the master and slave, for example a broken cable, the master attempts to reestablish the connection automatically.
