Command: Configure MCP Client

Function: The command opens the Configure MCP Client dialog for the configuration of the MCP Server. The MCP Server configuration is written to an MCP Client application. The MCP Client uses this configuration to establish a connection to the CODESYS MCP Server.

Call: Tools menu

Requirements: The Claude Desktop tool must be installed on the same computer as the CODESYS Development System in order to enable the Add to Claude Desktop option. If another MCP Client is supposed to be used, then this client must be installed and must support the MCP Server configuration.

Table 1. Dialog: Configure MCP Client

Add to Claude Desktop

Writes the CODESYS Development System configuration directly to the configuration file of Claude Desktop. The Claude Desktop is the officially supported MCP Client. This option must be used when the connection needs to be set up without manual configuration.

Copy to Clipboard

Copies the configuration as JSON text to the clipboard. This option must be used when a different MCP Client is supposed to be configured. The copied configuration uses the Claude Desktop format. Other MCP Clients may require a different format. The correct configuration format can be found in the documentation of the respective MCP Client.

Cancel

Closes the dialog without making any changes.

After configuration, if the Add to Claude Desktop option has been enabled or the copied configuration has been added to an MCP Client, then the MCP Client application must be restarted. The Claude Desktop requires a restart before new MCP Server configurations take effect.

The CODESYS MCP Server should then be displayed as an available MCP Server in the client. If the server is not displayed, then the troubleshooting steps should be checked in the documentation of the MCP Client.
